York Talking News

Does someone you know have problems reading a newspaper? York Talking News offers anyone who is print disabled through sight problems or other difficulties handling a newspaper, a free monthly audio magazine of local news and general interest items.

What we do:

York Talking News is a free audio magazine covering local news, what’s on, information about assistive technology plus regional and seasonal features.

Who for?

Our listeners are people with sight impairments or those unable to process print unaided.

How it works:

Our volunteers read and record articles from the York Press, the Dalesman and other publications.

We record a new edition each month, normally made available on the first Wednesday, which we put on a memory stick and send to all our listeners. This plugs into your computer, laptop, boombox or other sound device.

You can also listen via the Talking News Federation website, or on Alexa, or on Alexa via Siri.

We post out the recordings monthly in a reusable wallet which you return to us post free when you have listened, turning over the address card.
